In an interview to a daily, Shekhar compared 'The Kapil Sharma Show' to 'Bombay Velvet'. He stated that there was too much hoopla around the show, but the outcome was hugely disappointing. Praising the stand-up comedian, Shekhar said that Kapil is hugely talented but sadly everything comes with an expiry date. It's time for Kapil to reinvent himself.

Shekhar, who has judged Kapil on 'Comedy Circus' and 'The Great Indian Laughter Challenge', feels he has the talent but is getting repetitive. He added Kapil has the ability to think on his feet. But hosting your one's show needs skill of language and quick, witty replies. He also criticized men becoming women to add humour on Kapil's show. Shekhar is of the opinion that a small act once in a while is fine, but becoming a cross-dresser doesn't make sense to him. However, he also mentioned that there is an audience for everything.
