Shark Tank India 5: Founder of an intimate clothing brand calls Anupam Mittal 'best brand ambassador for underwear'; latter says 'phenk ke marunga'
The recent episode of Shark Tank India season 5 episode featured an intimate clothing brand ‘Panteazy by founders Vikas Dahiya and Praveen Mishra from Delhi. They made an entry on the show in a dramatic manner, chanting quirky slogan about men's undergarments. Their slogans and entry left the Sharks laughing out loud. Their ask was Rs 50 lakhs for 5 percent Equity at the valuation of Rs 10 crores. As soon as they finished their presentation about their brand, Shark Mohit Yadav of Minimalist asked the pitchers', "Before we start asking business questions mera ek he sawaal hai... agar Anupam invest karte hain, toh expertise ke beyond, inko brand ambassador bananne ka mauka milega?" Pitcher Praveen Mishra responds, "bilkul sir bilkul woh toh suit bhi karenge kaafi. For us as an audience, mujhe laga hai sabse atrangi, aur sabse stylish wohi hain." Anupam took the comment sportingly. He laughed with the other Sharks and then reacted to the comment and said, "phek ke marunga." (I’ll throw this at you)
The joke continued when Namita Thapar said, "Stylish nahi yaar aise mat bolo, mera bhai bhi stylish hai." She pointed at Aman Gupta, who said, "Nahi Jhangiyon ke liye wohi theek hai (he is good for underwear)."
The founders then widened their pitch, saying that any of the “sharks” could be a brand ambassador since everyone wears underwear. The pitcher duo shared they have known each other for past 27 years. They shared the company was registered in 2021 and started working in December 2022. The founders said they sell different types of men’s underwear priced between Rs 399 and Rs 799. They also sell bodysuits that cost around Rs 2,000. Their average order value is Rs 725.
While they were explaining about their brand, Aman Gupta commented on the brand name ‘Panteazy’ and said that it sounds like it is meant to attract people’s fantasies. The Shark further mentioned few mistakes about their brand's name. To this pitcher Praveen said, “With due respect sir, naam mein kuch nahi hota. Technically toh audio ke liye boAt bhi koi naam nahi hai aisa (With due respect sir, there’s nothing in the name. Technically, audio equipment has nothing to do with boAt.)” The founders further explained that once a brand is established, it can expand into different product categories. They gave the example of boAt, saying that if Aman decides to sell mobile phones, people would accept it as well.
Founders Praveen Mishra and Vikas Dahiya were unable to secure a deal from any of the Sharks and unfortunately left empty-handed.
