Shardul Pandit is a busy man nowadays. The actor, who was last seen in a cricket league comprising TV actors and is currently seen in a cameo in the show 'Siddhivinayak', will soon be making his theatre debut with 'Rangrez'.
Informs Shardul, “I am playing a painter and a poet. It’s a love story based on ideologies and is an adaptation of Anton Chekhov's stories.”
Talking about his love for theatre, the actor says, “I am very excited about my theatre debut, as I have been wanting to pursue theatre since my radio jockey days.
Back then, I would sit at Prithvi Theatre and talk to many famous personalities. When I decided to take the plunge into theatre, a TV project came my way. And it was only recently, during the shoot of my show 'Siddhivinayak' that my dream came true. I learnt about a play from my co-actor Utkarsha Naik, which her husband was directing. I am glad that she asked me to do the play.”
He agrees that theatre is challenging and says, “Yes, theatre is tough, not just because of retakes, but also the language it needs. In TV, close-ups are needed and the hand movements are not so important. There is editing and you have a mic, too. On the other hand, in theatre, an artiste has to speak at the top of his voice. Body language and hand movements matter a lot. So, theatre is quite difficult,” he says.
Along with Utkarsha, Shardul will share stage with Charu Mehra and Abhijeet Ganguly.
