A daily soap that is all set to join the bizarre-track bandwagon is Harphoul Mohini. A recently released promo of the upcoming track from Harphoul Mohini, which was deleted later, sent us into a tizzy. In the promo, Mohini (Shagun Sharma) is shown delivering a watermelon which then turns into a girl of around five years. Not just this, the nine-month duration of pregnancy is completed in just nine days.
We decided to speak to Shagun about the upcoming track.
She said, “When the track was narrated to me, I was shocked and couldn’t understand the concept. I took time to process the information. I told the creative team that it needed to sit down with me and tell me what was in store instead of explaining over a call. I realised that the idea behind the track wasn’t wrong. Balwant Chaudhary (Tej Sapru) is the evilest person and God uses me as a medium to come to this world in a human avatar to kill him. The track is an adaptation of an award-winning short film.”

She adds, “TV is all about the ratings. Everyone associated with a show wants it to run for as long as it can. We will see how the audience reacts. Maybe, they need a shock. People need to be shown something unexpected. We have to keep up with our competition.”
But why a watermelon, we ask? “I asked the team about it and they told me that there is some link that leads to this. I haven’t read the storyline yet,” she answers.
The actress admits that she was slightly uncomfortable while performing the scene and especially playing a pregnant woman. She says, “As an artiste, we need to be prepared for anything that comes our way. I was playing a pregnant woman for the first time, so I was very uncomfortable. I had never even in my wildest dream imagined that I would do a scene like this. I even asked the production house to keep me out of it but that couldn’t have been done (laughs!). I have requested them to wrap up the shoot in a day.”

And what about playing the mother to a five-year-old straight away? “She won’t call me mom, as we aren’t really her parents. I am just a medium for God to kill Balwant,” she replies.
She now awaits the feedback of her family on the track when it airs. Shagun says, “My family hasn’t watched the promo yet. Mujhe sabse zyada sharam ussi baat se aa rahi hai. They have moved to Mumbai and live with me now. So, we will watch it together. It’s a weird feeling.”
Now, this is legit bizarre. Ask her if this is the strangest track she has watched on TV and she replies, “There is some logic to the track on my show. For me, the most bizarre one would be a track in Sasural Simar Ka in which their heads turned into earthen pots. If that can work, anything can,” she says, adding, “I have done shows which have focused on logic and were loved by the audience but failed to generate TRPs. I guess bizarre works. Also, the writers are experienced and they know what works and what doesn’t. The audience wants drama and out-of-the-world experience.”
