Saris, sweets and setting fresh goals: Avika Gor's Diwali plans
With the festive season in full swing, many find themselves reflecting on cherished traditions and the values they hold dear. Avika Gor, best known for her performances in shows like Balika Vadhu and Sasural Simar Ka, shares her heartfelt connection to the celebrations of Navratri and Diwali. "Since childhood, all I remember is celebrating Navratri and Diwali; I have never failed to celebrate these festivals with great enthusiasm," she recalls.
'These festivities are more than just celebrations'Even amidst her busy schedule, Avika ensures that family remains at the forefront during these festive times. "I make sure to get together with my immediate family and relatives. We all perform puja together, wish each other 'saal mubarak,' and engage in many other activities." The joy and warmth of family gatherings are palpable, as she expresses, "There is so much happiness in the air, and we all love it." For Avika, these festivities are more than just celebrations; they connect her to her roots and evoke a sense of nostalgia.
'My family video calls me for the puja'Although her professional commitments keep her on her toes, she acknowledges the blessings from her ancestors. "Unfortunately, I am unable to take many breaks for a few years, but it is also a blessing from my grandparents and ancestors that I am succeeding so much in life." This year, she plans to work five to six hours daily during the festive season, balancing her time between work and family. "Whenever I am out of town during the festive period, my family video calls me so that I can be part of the puja and aarti virtually, if not physically."

'Setting fresh goals is certainly a part of Diwali for me'As the year comes to a close, Avika reflects on the significance of setting goals. "Setting fresh goals and resolutions is certainly a part of Diwali and the New Year." Her aspirations include taking more trips with loved ones, spending quality time with family, and committing to charity work. "After all, there is immense joy in giving."
On what Diwali means to herCelebrating Diwali remains a special tradition for Avika. "For me, celebrating Diwali still means wishing my relatives 'saal Mubarak' in person, exchanging gifts, sweets, and more." The Saraswati Puja holds a significant place in her heart, where she finds magic in spirituality among loved ones. With a mindful approach, her family chooses to say no to crackers and food wastage, respecting both tradition and the environment. "Since my grandparents passed away, fireworks have been a complete no for us," she states, highlighting the importance of thoughtful celebration.
When it comes to indulgence, Avika has her favourites. "Diwali revolves around a lot of sweets and all kinds of desserts, but I am personally not very fond of mithai. However, some relatives get me pakwaan from Kutch; it comes with a lot of ghee." She embraces the deep-fried delight, looking forward to the special treat.
'Love wearing saris for the festive season'Fashion is another aspect of the festivities that Avika enjoys. "I have really enjoyed wearing saris since watching Sasural Simar Ka," she says, sharing her excitement for sari looks this season. "This festive season, my focus will be on my sari looks. Recently, I invested in some simple and elegant pieces. I will accessorise my outfits with stylish chokers, diamond jewellery, and anything else that feels regal," she says.
