Rytasha Rathore: Almost every woman I know has faced some form of sexual harassment

' came to an end a few months ago, actress Rytasha Rathore decided to go back to her roots —

The story revolves around Reyhaneh, who was sexually assaulted at the age of 19 in 2007, after which she stabbed the man in defense, but was sentenced for seven years and subsequently, hanged in 2014. While in jail, the victim wrote a bunch of letters to her mother that were then released on the internet after her death.

When asked what prompted her to take up this ‘emotionally exhausting’ role, Rytasha says, “The story itself is so compelling, how can anyone say a no? Now, more than ever, it is our responsibility to get these stories out there, so that we can call out the wrongdoers and give courage to survivors to tell their own stories. Almost every woman I know has faced some form of sexual harassment. It isn’t a statistic we should be okay with.”
