Be it the role of a sensible person in shows like 'Laptaganj' or the negative role of Ikhlaque Ahmed in the movie 'A Wednesday', Rohitash hasn’t left any stone unturned to prove his mettle on screen. He is currently playing the role of a ‘colourful’ person in 'Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai'.

Rohitash has also portrayed several characters with finesse on screen. He says, “In person, I find myself close to the character of Mukundilal Gupta. Just like him, I am an idealistic person who considers his doctrines before anything else. I can even fight for social issues just like the character. The character of Manmohan Tiwari is exactly opposite to me. But that’s the real test of an actor that despite the contradictions in nature, he has to add life to the role. Since I have a background in theatre and am an NSD alumnus, I prefer to do serious roles similar to that of Irrfan or Nawazuddin Siddiqui. But I constantly get comic roles because there is a herd mentality in the industry. If you have done one thing then you will be offered a similar thing. I never wanted to come into comedy but now enjoy working in such shows after working in sitcoms like 'Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai'. I have done movies and television as well and I am almost swinging in between both of them which is because of my own mistake. One should concentrate on only one thing, either movies or television just like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who could dare to leave a television show for movies.”

Talking more about films, Rohitash says, “Television cannot be compared to big screen. Though it has its own advantage but the memory of television shows is for very less time as compared to the movies. For instance, Lapataganj was a wonderful show that ran for almost five years but now barely anyone remembers it. I would love to do some more movies especially those that nurture me as an actor. I wish to do some biopics like the Veer Savarkar movie with which I started my career. I loved to be a part of Manish Jha’s movie Matrubhoomi that received a standing ovation in Cannes. It is one my favourite movie as an actor.”

Talking about his show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, Rohitash, says, “I accept that this show is related to Shrimaan Shrimati in terms of concept but the backdrop and language are entirely different. We made this show for all the men who come late from office and need some relaxation, hence, chose a late time to air it but eventually even kids and women started loving it. After we realised this, we have tried to keep this show appropriate enough for family viewing. We just want to spread happiness with this show and remove all negativity that daily soaps have spread everywhere just for TRPs.”
