Claiming that the 'Dera Sacha Sauda' is neither a religion nor was accorded any recognition as religious sect, comedian and television actor
Kiku Sharda moved Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking directions to quash the Haryana police FIRs registered against him for hurting religious sentiments.
Hearing the actor's plea, the HC has stayed his arrest in both the FIRs registered against him by Haryana police.
Kiku was accused of mimicking the Dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, in a show aired on a private TV channel on December 27, 2015.
The HC has also made it clear that the actor should not be arrested in any case related to the controversy. The state government has been asked to file its reply on the issue by February 4.
Claiming the FIRs against him is an attack on the fundamental rights of the actor, the counsel contended that the allegations contained in the two FIRs registered at Kaithal and Fatehabad were totally false and fabricated.
