Raveena Tandon: I’m taking things slowly
B-Town actress Raveena Tandon recently turned 40 and yet she looks nowhere close to that; she looks stunning and fit. She’s humble and the charm that she carries with herself will make you fall in love with her instantly. She has always been known for her being outspoken & carefree and that’s something which gives you a very positive vibe about Raveena. Her charm, her devil may care attitude, her humility and her gorgeous looks make her new show, ‘Simply Baatein with Raveena’ even more engaging and worth watching.
'Simply Baatein with Raveena' is an interactive chat show on Sony PAL where the host addresses issues under the collective umbrella of 'womanhood' with a fun approach coupled with expert advice from celebrated personalities of their respective fields. Excerpts from an interview with her regarding her show:
You have been a judge previously on a few reality shows. Simply Baatein is something really different that you have taken up? What made you host such the show?
Yes, I have judged a few reality shows before and I thoroughly enjoyed doing that. When Simply Baatein was offered, I really loved the concept and I could relate to it. A part of me felt strongly connected with the show. The best thing about the show is that, it not only lists down the problems that women face in their day-to-day life but also offers solutions for the same. I think that is the biggest USP of the show.

What kind of response you’re getting for show?
Oh, it’s great! The viewership is fantastic and it makes me very happy! There have been instances when I have been stopped by random people while travelling in Mumbai just to tell me that they love my show. That’s really encouraging.
Given that a lot of celebrities have their own talk shows today like Kapil Sharma, Anupam Kher and of course Karan Johar, did you feel a sense of competitiveness while taking up the show?

Not really because each of them has a different concept. My show talks about women at large. Besides that, I really don’t watch many Indian television shows; I’m mostly hooked to the American shows. But I have watched a few episodes of Koffee with Karan.
Your show caters to women at large. Don't you think it restricts the scope of your show as men may not watch it?
It talks about women at large but it will help men as well. The male audience can observe how they treat their wives at times and what issues a woman faces at home or in the society.
You have always been known for your bindaas attitude and for being outspoken. Have these qualities been of help on your show?
These ‘qualities’ don’t help in real life (laughs) but they surely help a great deal on the show. When you speak your heart, people you’re interacting with tend to do the same. When you share your personal experiences, people connect instantly. It’s quite possible that your viewers will learn from those experiences, making the show even more effective.
On your show, when you interact with people you know, does the personal equation you share with them helps you do it more effectively?
Of course it does! As there is an instant connect and you can be more spontaneous. When Sussanne Khan came on the show we both wanted to pack the shoot early as her son and my son study in the same class and we wanted to be free for them as soon as possible after their school.

What extra work do you need to put up for the show?
There’s a lot of research involved and I have to be really prepared. I can’t be clueless about the issue I’m addressing on the show as I’m the face of the show.
What do you think about Aamir Khan's Satyameva Jayate?
About five years ago, I took a similar concept to a news channel. I wanted corporate companies to come forward to help with social issues. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out, so I’m happy that somebody’s doing it. My parents are big fans of the show and they watch it regularly. Sometime back, I met Aamir on a flight and I told him about how superb his show is.
You have a role in Bombay Velvet which is due to release in 2015. Any more projects you’re working on currently?
I’m doing a film called ‘Shab’ with Onir (My brother Nikhil fame). I’m taking things slowly as I cannot spare a lot of time for my work. I want to be there for my kids and family.
