Rajeev Sen on his life post divorce with Charu Asopa; says ‘It is a terrible thing to happen’

Rajeev Sen took to social media to answer a few questions from users about his life, divorce, comparisons with sister Sushmita Sen. Charu and Rajeev got married in June 16, 2019 and on June 8, 2023, their divorce came through. Rajeev spoke about going through divorce and also what he has learnt from his experiences.

2/8

‘Divorce is a terrible thing to happen’

A user asked him, “Do you ever feel Charu and your decision of divorce is not right?” Rajeev replied saying, “When you talk about the word ‘divorce’ – it’s a very terrible thing to happen in between a couple. No matter what the reason, it is not good. Decision about divorce is a very personal thing in between a couple. There is individual point of view. Her point of view is different, mine is different.”

3/8

‘Divorce is not the answer’

Talking about if divorce is answer – I don’t think so. Unless, it is very toxic, there is a difference. But if you are having compatibility issues, fighting for small things, we can overcome that by talking to each other. In my case, I feel I did try. I did try that divorce shouldn’t happen. It had more to do with my daughter than me and Charu. But that doesn’t mean that if you don’t have a child, you don’t try.

‘Whatever happened, woh galat hua’

Marriage is not between 2 people, it is also between two families. Absolutely, it’s not the right decision to make when you have a child. A child deserves love from both mother and father. Whatever happened, woh galat hua. This is my thought. I am doing whatever is best for my daughter.

5/8

Sorting out things in between a couple

No matter what the differences may be between a couple, I think they need to adjust for the child. Make your child your priority. It’s not the kid’s fault. If the relationship is not toxic, things can be sorted out by talking out, counseling. The moment you have ego clashes, third party interference, even it is a family member, or friends, you are asking for trouble.

6/8

Learning from past personal experience

What happens between a couple should always stay in the house. Period. With my own experience, I would advise youngsters to stay as much as private. You don’t have to show it to the world. You don’t have to post lovey-dovey pictures. Sometimes it is ok but not always. You don’t have to boast about your earnings or what you are doing in life. Nazar lag jaati hai. Sometimes, those haters are someone from the family. Anny good relationship is good with privacy.

7/8

On social media being an evil tool in life

‘What is the value of respect in your life?’ Respect comes first and then comes love. Sometimes you need to earn it. The world is running on pretense right now. Everyone will post happy pictures but they are not genuinely happy. There are exceptions. The entire world is tempted with social media. To a certain extent social media has corrupted young minds.

8/8

On not being overshadowed by sister Sushmita Sen

Everything is known about her. As a brother, I am very proud of her. And I am proud of the fact that I am her brother. She has made the entire family proud. One should never be compared. We both have our own journeys.
