Punit Pathak: I’ll do a Gujarati film if I am offered one

He smoothly pulled off the role of a drug addict dancer in his debut film 'ABCD' and moved onto do the sequel too, Punit Pathak went from being a young lad from Chorwad to a household name, in a matter of months. This dancer-actor was in the town on a promotional trip of 'Dance India Dance 5'. This talented dancer who was a participant on the same show in 2010, is now judging it.
“I’m crazy about Gujarati food, I love the sweet tinge that is added to the spiciest of dishes”, he says, in perfect Gujarati, although he hasn’t lived in the state per say. He says, “I have family here of course, but I haven’t lived here as such. We speak Gujarati back home and so I have an impeccable Gujarati dialect.”

Considering such good Gujarati diction, would he ever want to do a Gujarati film? “I would love to, if somebody offered one to me! I’ve never been offered a Gujarati film. Although I’ve heard the industry is picking up very well and films based on contemporary and youthful themes are also being made.” Ask him if he’s watched any Gujarati films and he is frank enough to accept that, “Honestly I have not. However I’ve watched a lot of Gujarati plays in Mumbai, owing to my parents’ love for regional theatre. Going for Gujarati plays used to be their weekly date, they’d do to Bhaidas Hall every weekend.”
The breathtaking dancer wasn’t always the twinkle toes he is now. “Dancing was completely coincidental in my life. Up until 17, I didn’t even know I could dance! It all began in college when I first performed, that’s where my love story with dance took shape and here’s where I’ve reached after that.” About his next projects, he says, “There is nothing in the offing right now, I’m just looking at scripts but nothing concrete is happening right now.”
