Prashant Tamang's demise: Meiyang Chang remembers his friend, says 'We had been planning a Darjeeling trip, never thought it would be like this'
Actor, TV host, and singer Meiyang Chang recently expressed grief on his Indian Idol 3 batchmate Prashant Tamang's sudden demise. He looked shocked and devastated during a visit to his mortal remains in West Bengal. During his conversation with ANI, the actor shared his reaction to Prashant's sudden demise.
"Our first reaction, from all of us, batchmates, friends, and people who have worked with him in production and on the channel for so many years, was that it had to be a joke. We had just spoken to him on the 4th, on his birthday. He was doing a show in Varanasi and was supposed to come to Mumbai today to meet all of us. Everything happened so suddenly. When we realised it wasn’t a prank and started confirming it with each other, it felt unreal. Even now, we still can’t believe it," he said.
Meiyang revealed that Prashant and other batch-mates from Indian Idol were planning to meet in Darjeeling. He further extended his support to Prashant's family, he said, "We had been planning to visit Darjeeling for a long time, and that plan was made with Prashant. We never imagined we would come here like this. We are still in shock. All we can say to Prashant’s family—to Martha, Arya, Didi, and everyone—is to stay strong. We are all with you."
He thanked the Nepali audience for supporting Prashant and shared that the last singer united people, "In Darjeeling, and wherever there is a Nepali audience that gave Prashant so much love, one thing always stood out—he united people. Whether among friends or strangers, Nepali communities or people from the North-East, Prashant had a way of bringing everyone together. That spirit of unity is the lesson he left behind, and it’s something we must all hold on to and carry forward," he concluded.
For the uninitiated, Prashant Tamang passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 43, in New Delhi. He was reportedly found dead at his residence and initial reports suggested a sudden heart attack as the reason behind his demise.
