On India’s 74th Independence Day, TV stars remember their school I-Day celebrations
Independence Day is celebrated with enthusiasm across the country every year. 2020 marks India’s 74th year of Independence. On this day, people across the length and breadth of the country pay tribute to our freedom fighters, who valiantly fought for India’s independence. While celebrations will be low-key this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the patriotic fervour continues nonetheless.
We asked television celebs about their childhood memories of Independence Day and whether they acted, gave speeches or performed at I-Day celebrations at their schools.

, who has featured in TV shows such as ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’ and ‘Dhhai Kilo Prem’, says, "It was fun participating in cultural programs to celebrate Independence Day. I remember actively participating in these programs. I never missed out on attending school on that day. It was and is a moment of pride for every Indian.”Roopal Tyagi

’, says, "Every year, along with my other classmates, I used to get dressed in a white salwar-kameez and tricolour dupatta, and sing patriotic songs on stage. I used to also participate in dance events that celebrated different dance forms of our country. These are some of my favourite memories from school days, and I never missed a chance to partake in these activities. I still remember performing to the song, ‘Rang De Basanti’.”Actress

’, says, “We would prepare weeks in advance for the day. I was a part of the group that would be assigned the responsibility of decorating the ground where the Indian flag was hoisted. We used to make rangoli and collected flowers to complete the decoration. We would also participate in other culture activities. We use to dance to patriotic songs. It was a lot of fun attending school on Independence Day."Roop Durgapal

’ and who was also seen in ‘Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi’, says, "During school days, it was a must for me to either be part of a song or dance performance or to give a speech on that day.
