On a different trip
Gautam Rode doesn’t seem to believe in the typical learning curve. It was films first, then he tried his hand at theatre (and studying to become a fitness professional) and now, television.
He’ll soon be seen hosting a talent-based reality show with Meiyang Chang as his partner. Right now, the duo is travelling across the country for auditions. Says Gautam, “So far, I have never had to look into the camera and talk.
However, when you are hosting, it’s all about looking directly into the lens.
I took quite a while to adjust to that.” He shares some unforgettable experiences. “At one of the cities, we were canning a shot where contestants had to run inside enthusiastically as soon as the gates opened. At the word ‘go’, hundreds sprung into action, running at such speed, that Chang and I, who were standing on one side, were almost flung aside.
While I hung on to a latch, Chang hung on to me.” He says he’d really want to bring home a magician he met during auditions. “We met this man, who’d take a Rs 10 note and turn it into a Rs 100 one right in front of us. We checked him out thoroughly but couldn’t figure the trick out. I wish I could have given him a few more Rs 10s to multiply my fortune,” he says laughing.
