Naved Jafri: I do intend to settle down again
Naved Jafri and Sayeeda Kurlawala won the reality show Power Couple in 2016. However, six years later, the two parted ways. In a recent chat with us, Naved said, “It was beautiful while it lasted. Eventually, we realised we lacked understanding, and the marriage had run its course. So, in 2022, we decided to separate amicably.”
Naved has found love again. Talking about it, he shared, “I prefer not to get into details about her since she is not part of the industry and lives abroad. I have known her for three decades, and we started dating about a year ago. We do intend to settle down, but there are a lot of things that need to be sorted out before that.”
Naved is best known for his association with the dance reality show Boogie Woogie. When asked if the show would return to the small screen, he replied, “We are working on a dance reality show like Boogie Woogie and are looking for the right people to back us. Hopefully, the trio, Jaaved (Jaaferi), Ravi (Behl), and I will reunite.”
Reflecting on the evolution of dance reality shows on Indian television, Naved said, “Boogie Woogie was a simple show. It felt like a big family gathering where everyone had fun, and nothing was forced for ratings. Now, things have changed. There is a lot of emphasis on emotional and sob backstories. That said, I love watching the kids dance. India has advanced significantly in terms of talent.”
However, he highlights the importance of uniqueness in today’s dance style. He explained, “Style is most important in any form – your own original style. Look at the legends – Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Govinda – they all had their distinctive styles. Their dance moves became iconic because they incorporated their unique flair. That’s what is missing today – there is no originality. Plus, with so many dance reality shows airing on multiple channels simultaneously, it dilutes the uniqueness.”
