Namik Paul on working with Priyanka Chahar Choudhary: says 'She is extremely reliable, doesn’t panic and genuinely helps a lot'
Hit supernatural saga, Naagin recently made a smashing return with season 7. Namik Paul, essaying the role of Aryamaan, gets candid about stepping into the world of myths, mysteries, and meaningful storytelling. In a chat, the actor spoke about Naagin 7, his role and being part of the successful fantasy drama.
Tell us about the show
Naagin 7 brings a fresh story. This season is not just about love or revenge, but about a bigger mission. The Naagin faces surprises she never imagined. It tells the story of a daughter born into a legacy she did not choose, yet must protect, as she finds strength through love, loss, and her mother’s promise. The show shows what happens when an ancient power wakes up to create a new threat, but the real story is her journey to discover who she is and what she stands for. My character, Aryaman, is a journalist, who is caught up in a mystery and conspiracy that he can barely understand. With mythology, mystical beings, and high-stakes drama, Naagin 7 is set to be the most exciting and emotional season yet.
Tell us something about your character
I’m playing a top journalist in the show, someone who is extremely sharp, disciplined, and very sure of what he wants. He’s a man of few words, and emotionally guarded. He doesn’t show emotions easily and stays focused on his work. That doesn’t make him heartless, he just values skill and dedication. He respects people who are good at what they do, and that’s how his bond with Priyanka’s character starts. She is his PA, but their relationship goes far beyond a basic professional setup. It’s layered, complicated, and full of unsaid emotions, which makes it very interesting to portray as an actor.
How has been your experience of working with your co-stars?
It’s been a very comfortable and positive experience. Priyanka is extremely reliable and very chilled out as a person. She has this calm energy where she’s like, “yeh ho jaayega toh ho jaayega”, and that really helps on set. She doesn’t panic, she’s sorted, and she genuinely helps a lot, which makes working long hours much easier. I haven’t really worked much with Eisha yet because we don’t have many scenes together, but from whatever interactions we have had, she comes across as a very beautiful soul. The overall vibe on set has been quite warm and collaborative.
After being a journalist in real-life, how was it playing one in Naagin 7. How did that personal experience shape your performance?
I’ve been a journalist in real life, and that experience stayed with me while approaching this character. So from being a real journalist to a reel one in Naagin 7, the journey feels very full circle. Journalism teaches you to observe keenly, question deeply, and stay emotionally neutral while chasing the truth. That mindset helped me understand my character better, his discipline, his detachment, and his focus. Of course, the show is dramatised but having lived that life at some point gave me a certain authenticity and grounding while playing the role.
How has your experience been working with Ekta Kapoor for Naagin 7?
I think my journey with Naagin started on a high note.I unofficially got to know that I have been finalised for Naagin 7 on my birthday and so in that sense, Naagin 7 has been the best birthday gift I got this year. Working with Ekta Kapoor is always fascinating because she’s such an instinctive and powerful storyteller. She has this incredible clarity about her characters, their motivations, their journeys, and where they are headed, even before things unfold on screen. Sometimes, the way she explains a scene or a character makes you realise how deeply she’s thought it through. As an actor, that kind of vision gives you a lot of confidence because you know you’re being guided by someone who understands storytelling at a very deep level. Being a part of a show like Naagin 7 under her leadership is creatively very fulfilling, and it pushes you to trust the process and give your best every single day.
What message do you want to give to our viewers?
Naagin 7 is going to take viewers on a very emotional and thrilling journey, filled with surprises, drama, and moments that really stay with you. It’s a story about being brave, discovering yourself, and answering the call of destiny.I genuinely hope audiences enjoy every bit of it and feel as deeply connected to the story and characters as we do while bringing it to life. I’m really looking forward to building that bond with the viewers and sharing this journey with them through the show.
