Mohnish Bahl: I need to slow down at 55
At a time when actors are competing with each other to defy and deny their age, Mohnish Bahl comes as a refreshing change. The actor, whose last outing in fiction ended abruptly after he quit TV show '
“I can’t commit 15 hours a day to a show. My lower back went for a toss when I was shooting like that. It’s better now, but there are chances of a relapse if I return to a 12-hour shift. I have to take care of my health and think beyond work. Also, when you are working, your personal life takes a backseat. This break allowed me to spend quality time with my family,” says Mohnish, adding, "I would like to work in a show with a bank of episodes ready before going on air. I am 55 and I need to slow down."
He is back on the small screen with the crime show, 'Hoshiyaar... Sahi Waqt, Sahi Kadam'. Interestingly, after quitting the daily soap, Mohnish had hosted another crime show, 'Savdhaan India'. Why is he making his comeback in a similar space? He explains, “To begin with, I am the solo host of this show. Also, it deals with preventing an untoward incident rather than informing viewers about something that has already occurred.”
Given the fact that naagins and daayans are ruling television today, would he be game for such content? He shoots back, “Never. Not that I look down upon them, but I can't associate myself with such content.”
Known to be a regular in Sooraj Barjatya's films -- he became popular after playing the antagonist in 'Maine Pyar Kiya' -- the actor was surprisingly missing from 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'. He elaborates, “They gave me a narration, but it wasn’t for any specific role. I also realised that I didn’t fit any role in the movie. I couldn’t play Salman’s (Khan) negative brother as I have mostly played his positive elder brother. I most certainly couldn't have played Sonam’s (Kapoor) role (laughs). There was nothing for me, but there are no hard feelings. I hope to get back on the big screen soon, with a really good role,” says he.
