Former Miss India Tanusheee Dutta initiated the 'Me Too' movement in India when she spoke about her sexual harassment that she faced 10 years ago on the sets of her movie. Tanushree accused her then co-star
Nana Patekar for trying to sexually harass her.
The news spread like wildfire in no time and that led to the birth of the #MeToo movement. The movement spread all across the world and many women came out in the open talking about their fears and experiences. While the actor had rubbished all the accusations levelled against him by the actress, Tanushree had formally lodged a complaint with the police.
Actress
Ishita Dutta, who is Tanushree's younger sister, now feels that it was indeed a brave initiative by her sister who chose to speak up without fearing the repercussions of her actions. In a conversation with TimesofIndia.com, the proud sister spoke about the #MeToo rage.
"I am happy as people came out in the open talking about their experiences through the MeToo movement and I am glad that my sister was the one who initiated it," said Ishita. "10 years ago when this had happened to Tanushree no-one had acknowledged and supported her. I am glad that Tanushree was finally
heard after 10 long years as initially they did not even hear her out back then and it was a troubled time for her and the family. But now with the new generation, with girls and guys who are more aware, people have come out in support of Tanushree and that really made me happy. I have a lot of respect for people who have supported her. It takes a lot many people to take forward a movement and it is not the job of just one person. Yes, Tanushree did initiate it and she has always been very strong and vocal about everything. But I am glad people understood the intensity of the movement and strongly took it
ahead."
Ishita says that she and Tanushree share an extremely warm
relationship and she can always rely upon Tanushree for any advise or
decision making. She also stated that Tansuhree has wished her all the
luck and love for her upcoming project.
The actress, who is all set to return to TV with
Ekta Kapoor's Bepannah Pyaar, is thrilled to be a part of the production house. She will be seen cast opposite actor
Pearl V Puri. The show also stars Aparna
Dixit in the lead as well.
