Maithili Thakur, 25, becomes Bihar's youngest MLA after earlier rejections from Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Indian Idol
Maithili Thakur made history in Bihar politics by winning the Alinagar seat as Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate. At just 25, she has become one of the youngest leaders in the state. She is getting praised for her smashing debut in politics and is lauded across Mithila region. Maithili has always been appreciated not just for her singing, but also for her humble nature and strong cultural roots. However, not many are aware that before making entry in politics, Maithili went through a number of rejections as a young performer.
As a kid, she tried out for many singing reality shows but was rejected again and again. She attempted to get into Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs and other popular music contests but couldn’t make it through. She even gave an audition for Indian Idol Junior, but didn’t reach the final stage. All these setbacks happened while she and her family were putting in tremendous effort and hard work to support her musical journey. However, her breakthrough opportunity came in 2017 when she bagged a spot in Rising Star. Her soulful rendition of devotional songs won hearts across the nation. She made it straight to the finals and ultimately secured the runner-up position, missing the winning title by just two votes.
Maithili did not win the competition but her presence on Rising Star changed her career. After that, she shifted her focus to social media, posting classical, folk, and devotional songs with support from her brothers. Her videos became very popular, and she soon became a well-known and respected face of Mithila culture.
Maithili Thakur was born on July 25, 2000, in Madhubani, Bihar, into a family deeply rooted in music. Her father, Ramesh Thakur, a classical vocalist, trained her from a young age, while her mother, Pooja Thakur, managed the home. Maithili, along with her brothers Ayachi and Rishabh, forms a musical trio known for promoting India’s folk traditions.
