Aditi Govitrikar in many ways has it all — a medical degree, a Mrs World title, ramp shows, television, films and two children. Aditi was in Ahmedabad recently for a nutrition awareness program. She sounded frank, articulate and spontaneous even after being in showbiz for so many years.
“Yes, it indeed has been quite a journey,” Aditi laughs when you ask her to look back as she adds, “Coming from a family where no one ever had anything to do with glamour world, I was like the proverbial fish out of water. But I feel that was the real beauty of the situation. I was walking into a territory that was unknown to me, so it became even more exciting and challenging. Plus, I’ve always liked challenges.” And was it her dream? “Never”, her answer is prompt as she says, “I’ve never believed in planning for tomorrow. I live in the present. But yes, I have always done what I’ve felt was right and then given it all. After I won a modeling contest, I felt that was really something I wanted to do, so I followed my instinct.”
It appears that she isn’t regretting her decision at all. “If I have to start my career all over again, I might make a change or two; but there aren’t any regrets as such. I feel I could have taken my film career much more seriously, instead of just taking it as it came my way. I could have taken calculated steps. But these are all ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’. I am glad that I still have options to choose from and much more to look forward to.” She quips, “Looking good all the time is always a bit of a pain. Someday, you just want to lie on bed, but you still have to put up a good show. You are eating at a restaurant, and the owner wants a picture even when you’ve got a mouthful. But at the end of the day, you enjoy it all.”
Having dealt with a messy divorce, Aditi also shares her priority at the moment is motherhood. “As a single mother, my children need my time and presence. Everything else is secondary. Like any other mom, I also don’t want to miss their special moments, like a race on a sports day or performance in a function, I try my best to have as much of my share as possible.” She is also quick to drop a tip on motherhood, “I’ve always treated my children as little adults. I talk, discuss and be honest with them. I explain my schedules and if I make a promise to come back by a time, I try never to miss it. Don’t break those small promises made to your children, because they matter to them.”
Apart from her modeling assignments and a Marathi film, Aditi is all set to make her debut as a producer. “I am listening to scripts and will soon start a production house with a Marathi feature film.” Why not a Hindi film? “Marathi is my mother tongue,” she explains, “And I think we have great literature to adapt from. I want to start with a small budget film, learn my lessons and then move on to the bigger game. This is something I am really serious about and want to take it all the way through.” Spoken like a true business woman, we say!
