Actress Mridula Oberoi who is known for featuring in popular TV shows like Kumkum Bhagya, Naagin 6 and Bhagya Laxmi, says Ganeshotsav is very significant in her life. Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day festival marking the birth of the elephant-headed deity Ganesha, the god of prosperity and wisdom.
She said, "The festival is very significant for me as it marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, who is considered the one who removes all the obstacles from the path. Therefore, he is also called Vignaharta. It is said that any auspicious occasion begins with worshipping him and asking him to oversee the celebration without any hindrance. It is believed that he guides his devotees and helps them embark on the path of prosperity and success. The festival marks the celebration of good over evil, humility, and knowledge."
Talking about her celebrations the actress who was last seen in the show Baghin, continued, "Before bringing Bappa home, I make sure to prepare all his favourite dishes. I believe when I'm bringing Vighnaharta, who is a foodie and hence, I enjoy preparing treats for him. Some of the traditional delights include modal, ladoo, karanji, sheera, and sundal."
She added, "But Modak is a crucial part of the festive celebration as it is believed that Ganeshji cherishes this sweet the most. According to mythology, Goddess Parvati (his mother) used to prepare modaks for him. The rice flour dumplings are stuffed with jaggery, dry fruits, and cardamom. Apart from sweets, I also prepare savoury dishes to please the Lord."
Mridula, who hails from Pathankot, Punjab, has been living in Mumbai for the past many years, while her family is in Punjab. She concluded by sharing, "The festival is special for me. That's because along with Bappa, my mother (Rita Kanwar) too visits Mumbai at this time every year."
Mridula has also featured in Bollywood movies like 'Jug Jugg Jeeyo' and 'Love Aaj Kal 2'.
