Kruttika Desai
, who is currently playing the strong character of Suman, the family matriarch in the
TV
show
Pandya Store
, shares how she does not get so angry in real life. She says, "Every character I have played on TV, whether it was dadi maa in
Mere Angne Mein or Suman in Pandya Store, has a little of me. Suman is authoritative and wants to control the family and loses her temper often. I am not the one to scream in real life. In life situations, I would prefer to walk away from an unpleasant situation. But, most of my characters are played mixing the traits I have, so people connect. In many ways Suman and Ammaji overlap, but as immodest it sounds, I bring a lot of newness to the character."
Ask her about the workings of the TV industry and she says, "Everything is fine but the 90-day payment cycle has to change. We are working for years as senior actors, so we can sustain but how can newer actors survive the 90-day cycle? Travel, car, commute to far off places - all this is not easy for a new actor."
Content too needs to change a little, says Kruttika. "TV makers are trying new concepts but I feel the stories still need to change, roles need to change. We are getting there and it is definitely different from what it was earlier, but the progress is slow," she says.
Kruttika has been doing TV shows since
Buniyaad
days and she played the role of Mangala in it. In the past few years, she has played diverse roles and is known for her talent and versatility.
