Kaushiki Rathore on why she’s been missing from TV after Durga Aur Charu; says ‘I want roles that challenge me as an actor’
Actor Kaushiki Rathore, loved for her impactful performances in Krishna Chali London, Gudiya Hamari Sabhi Pe Bhari, and Story 9 Months Ki, has been noticeably absent from television ever since she wrapped her nuanced grey role as Sumona in Durga Aur Charu. With fans wondering why she’s stayed away from the spotlight, the actress has finally opened up about her deliberate pause and her vision for the kind of work she wants to return with.
Explaining her break from the small screen, Kaushiki says, “I have been looking for prominent characters and, at the same time, I want to do roles which challenge me as an actor. That’s why I have been away after my last show.”
For her, the decision is rooted in a deep desire to grow creatively. She emphasises that repeating similar characters has never appealed to her. “As an actor, I have always believed in experimenting, and it helps me push my limits. I don’t want to get comfortable doing similar roles. Growth happens only when you choose parts that scare you a little, excite you creatively and make you explore new shades of performance,” she explains.
Kaushiki received praise for her portrayal of Sumona, a layered character that allowed her to tap into complex emotions. But the actress believes each project should take her a step forward artistically, rather than simply adding to her list of credits. She reveals that she is actively reading scripts, meeting creators, and waiting for a role that truly sparks something within her.
With a career already marked by versatility and strong character-driven roles, Kaushiki Rathore is focused on quality over quantity. Her next appearance on television, she says, will not just be another comeback, it will be a fresh chapter shaped by intention, growth, and stories that challenge her as an artist.
