Kaun Banega Crorepati 17: Carpenter contestant Chhinder Pal on the importance of education; says ‘I can mortgage myself for my sons’ education’
In the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, Chhinder Pal from Hussainpur, Punjab takes the hotseat. He is a carpenter.
After winning Rs 25,000, host Amitabh Bachchan asks him, how much he earns in a day. Chhinder replies, “I earn around Rs 600 per day after 8-9 hours of work. I would have to shed a lot blood and sweat to earn this much. Sometimes, even if I get injured, I don’t get to feel. My father, his father have all been labourers.” Big B responds, “You earned more than your monthly income in just a few minutes on this hotseat.”
He talks about finding it difficult to educate his sons due to financial restrictions.
He breaks down in tears recalling his hardships, and emphasizing the importance of education. He says, “Aagar mujhe khudko bhi girwi rakhna pade, main rakh lunga but I want to educate my kids.”
He says, “I have been able to take up pen and paper due to KBC. Earlier, I used to have tools in my hands but now I would study for 2 hours in the morning. Seeing me, my kids also study.”
He is all praises for his wife saying, “She has never asked for anything. I have never even been able to take her out for a movie. I have never taken any decision of my life on my own. Marrying her was my only decision and the best one. She has supported me throughout. Once, I was not getting work and one work call came. For that I had to travel a bit far. But I didn’t have petrol in my bike. I didn’t even have money. My wife just had Rs 50 and she gave it to me for petrol.”
His wife also tells that she is lucky to have a husband like him.
He uses first lifeline audience poll for Rs 5 lakh question: Which sporting trophy was named after a Maharaja named Manmath Nath Roy Chowdhary? A. Ranji Trophy, B. Santosh Trophy, C. Deodhar Trophy, D. Bengal Trophy.
