Jigyasa Singh: I want to clarify I haven’t quit television
Jigyasa Singh, who became a household name as Thapki in Thapki Pyar Ki, quit the show’s second season in February 2022 due to health reasons. What was initially meant to be a short break turned into an extended absence from the industry. Reflecting on her decision, Jigyasa shares, “I have been working continuously since 2013, and it’s natural to experience physical and emotional highs and lows. I pushed myself too hard and ignored my health, leading to exhaustion. I had to step away from Thapki 2, a character I loved dearly. It wasn’t a choice, but a necessity due to my health. I needed time to recover and reflect on things before I could return to work.”
‘I am eager to return to my first love – television’
However, she didn’t anticipate her break would extend for nearly two years. She says, “Taking a break was the right decision, but I didn’t expect it to last this long. Now, when I go for auditions, people often ask if I’ve quit TV and shifted to the web, which isn’t true. I want to clarify I haven’t quit television. I am completely fine now and eager to return to my first love – television. The medium has given me so much, and I’m grateful for the love and recognition I’ve received. I’m open to roles that resonate with me and offer creative satisfaction, regardless of the medium.”
‘It only takes one good show to make a lasting impression’
Jigyasa signed three projects over the past year and a half, but none materialised. The actress, who has appeared in shows like Nazar, Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, and Dev, says, “I signed three shows during these two years, but they got shelved. I’ve been selective about the roles because I don’t want to repeat myself or take on stereotypical characters. It only takes one good show to make a lasting impression on the audience.”
