Jaya Ojha: My current show has brought back memories of time spent in Jaipur
Known for her role as Mandodari in the 2000’s TV series, Ramayan, Jaya Ojha, who is currently seen on the TV show, Tera Yaar Hoon Main, says, “The show has brought back the memories of days spent in Jaipur, as the storyline revolves around Jaipur’s Bansal family. Once again, I am reliving my college and university days spent in Pink City.”
The actress made her TV debut with the historical show, The Sword of Tipu Sultan by Sanjay Khan. Jaya, who hails from Sri Ganganagar, was studying in Jaipur when she got selected for the show. Reminiscing the time she auditioned for the show, Jaya says, “I was studying Hindustani Vocal Music at Rajasthan University back then. While studying in Jaipur, I used to do a lot of theatre. When I heard that Sanjay ji was shooting for the show, I auditioned for the same. When he got to know that I was pursuing a Masters in Vocal Music, he asked me to sing. Since he was looking for an actress who could sing, I got selected immediately. Later, I was offered the role of a ghazal singer in the show. This is how my journey in the world of acting started. Later, I did another historical drama, The Great Maratha.”
Jaya’s acting journey came to a halt when she got married after a few years and moved to Mumbai with her husband. “After marriage, I got busy with family affairs and took a break of almost 12 years. I came back to acting in 2005 with a show called Sai Baba,” she says. Jaya, who has also played Gopi Bahu’s mom in Saath Nibhana Saathiya, says, “That was the time when saas-bahu sagas were at its peak. Rupal Patel was the most hit saas in those days. And she deserves to be famous as she puts in a lot of efforts. Despite being a dominant saas on screen, she was one of the most loved characters of the time.”
