Jay Leno irks Indian government officials over his remarks on Golden Temple The Tonight Show host Jay Leno has irked Indian government officials over a joke he made on his show a few days ago.
Leno showed a picture of the Golden Temple as part of his sketch and suggested it would be the summer capital of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who has gotten bad press for his lavish living.
The gag hasn’t go down well with Indian officials who have decided to “take up the matter” with the US State Department. The development has spurred a series of debates on social networking sites, with fans of the show wondering whether India had truly lost her sense of humour. Even though there’s been no direct apology from Leno or his producers, Indian officials plan to pursue the matter with the highest authorities.
