‘Jamai Raja’ to no longer feature Achint Kaur

With a sizeable number of serials opting for time leaps currently, it is but natural for some actors to be apprehensive about playing older characters on screen. Among the serials that will see a time leap is ‘Jamai Raja’, which stars Ravi Dubey, Nia Sharma and Achint Kaur. The TV show will soon take a time leap of two years — minuscule as per television serial norms — and Achint’s character, DD will be seen making an exit.

Achint has opted out of the show citing it was time to pursue a different role. The actress, whose repertoire of work comprises a number of pathbreaking roles over two decades, played a chic mother-in-law in ‘Jamai Raja’ — a step away from the stereotypical saas portrayal that is usually seen on the small screen.
The shows makers have decided to bump off DD and her death will eventually cause a wedge in Roshni (Nia Sharma) and Sid’s (Ravi Dubey) relationship. Achint, who portrayed the character of an ambitious jewellery tycoon with a strong opinion, says that she was happy to push herself with this role. The actress says that while she will miss working on the show, she bonded well with her fellow actors and will take away a lot of good memories. Achint, who is now shooting for a film titled ‘Umeed’, plays a woman at an important post and trains models.
