Renowned producer, director and actor JD Majethia explains why it is difficult now to bring intelligent comedies on TV There were lots of talks about the making of the second series of much admired laughthon ‘Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai’. But the wait has proved to be rather long for the fans who were eagerly waiting for the second series to come.
Producer JD Majethia explains why — “The channels these days aren’t encouraging intelligent comedies like ‘Sarabhai…’ And even they shouldn’t be blamed for this.
The television in last few years has reached to the nooks and corners of the country where the audience is spread across the variety of cultures and literacy rate. To air a show with a small and specific audience in mind will be an expensive affair for any channel today.”
He adds, “Now the channels demand for dailies and not the weekly shows like ‘Sarabhai…’. Because that not only is convenient for a channel but looks like it’s suitable with audience too.”
But there is a ray of hope for the fans of the series, JD says, “We are trying very hard to bring back ‘Sarabhai…’. You will also see the cast reunited in the Sab TV’s show ‘Chintu Chinki Aur Ek Badi Si Love Story’ in a special episode that is going to be aired shortly. Hopefully something will figure out soon.”
