There's a popular saying in Hindi that a halwai never eats the sweets he makes. So why should it be any different for our TV actors, who've earned their name and fame working in desi shows, but won't watch any of them. Their reasons? Poor content, predictable story plots and a smaller scale of production on Indian TV as compared to shows from the West.SO PREDICTABLE! I don't watch Indian soaps at all because they are so predictable and monotonous.
The same story line is dragged for so many episodes. There's no subtlety in Indian television. Personally, I enjoy watching American series more than even Hollywood movies now, and even writers abroad now prefer to do TV series as they offer more scope for storytelling. I watch shows like House Of Cards, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Frasier and Game Of Thrones.

The only Indian television serial that I watch is mine and that too, to know how I am performing and how I can improve. Indian audience is divided into two categories: one, for those like my mother, who watches daily soaps on Indian television. And the other for those who only watch American series. Unfortunately, I fall into the latter. I have watched all the seasons of Friends and recently , saw a few episodes of House Of Lies. I like foreign shows as they match my standard of entertainment.
Viraf PatelALL OUR SHOWS LOOK THE SAME I like to watch American shows, White Collar , Two And A Half Men and 30 Rock are my favourite shows. All these shows are no less than blockbuster movies, primarily due to their story line. The content is so rich and treatment is par excellence. When it comes to our Indian soaps, I think we need better content writers. After a point, all our shows look the same. It's high time we come up with seasons for our shows as it will give writers more time to think.

ORIGINAL APPROACH The content on Indian television has started to deteriorate and so, it doesn't interest me much as a viewer. I look forward to American TV shows, which I feel are much better, right from their content to screenplay to performances to technical leverage. Also, they seem quite original in their story line. I also love the simplicity and realism of Pakistani TV shows, especially Zindagi Gulzaar Hai.

PERSONAL CHOICE I don't watch Indian TV shows at all, and it's a matter of personal choice. Whenever I get time, I either watch reality shows or American shows. If I have to watch anything Indian on TV ,I watch our news channels.

LOVE AMERICAN SHOWS Even though I love watching American shows, especially How I Met Your Mother , of which I have watched all the seasons more than 5 times, it doesn't mean that I don't like Indian TV soaps. I have grown up watching Indian serials but ever since I got exposed to American shows, I started loving them. I love their approach to the subject and the simplicity . As far as Indian shows go, I watch my show to check my performance and to see how I can improve further.

DESI DRAG Not everybody can like what Indian television offers. While for TV shows abroad, content is priority, for us TRPs are the deciding factor for a show's storyline. I personally like various American TV series. They are intelligent, and unlike desi shows, they do not drag on. Another remarkable difference between our shows and foreign shows is the budget. For example the launch episode of Game Of Thrones costed several crores, and was costlier than many of our Bollywood flicks.
Karan KundraDON'T HAVE THE PATIENCE TO WATCH A DAILY SOAP I don't watch Indian soaps because of lack of time. And I am acting in one, so I don't have the patience t o watch any soap daily . Indian TV soaps are never-ending and storylines keep changing. If I get time to watch TV , I like to tune into How I Met Your Mother. If I watch Indian soaps I feel I am still at work. And they are all more or less the same.
