Be it a reality show or a fiction show, Indian television shows have majorly been about ‘getting inspired’. Picture this, taking from Kaun Banega Crorepati or Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi – both successful Indian adaptation of foreign shows on the small screen to Anil Kapoor’s finite TV series 24 — which was adaptation of popular American series of the same name, many foreign show adaptations have hit the right note with the Indian TV audience.
The trend seems to continue with the viewers giving a thumbs up to a foreign show getting an ample desi tadka in the Indian adaptation.
Kaisi Yeh Yaariyaan The story of Manik (Parth Samthaan) and Nandini (Nity Taylor) and their friends that gets an Indian tempering from a Korean show. has struck a chord with the young audience. The show that essentially explores the importance of friendship and the USP of each relationship be it romantic, family, student-teacher et al, inevitably got teenagers glued to the show. What’s more the show’s got some massive followers in the online world too.
Kumkum Bhagya The love-hate story of Pragya (Sriti Jha) and Abhishek (Shabbir Ahluwalia) gets its origin from Jane Austen’s novel Sense and Sensibility. Story of a beautiful and confident rich girl Durga Thakur (Sanjeeda Sheikh) with a mysterious mind on a mission to seek revenge for Payal Mitra’s (Teena Chopra) psychological condition. Yudh This thriller was much talked about as the fiction television debut of superstar Amitabh Bachchan as Yudhisthir Sikarwar. The show is talked for its interesting story-line but, many found a heavy influence from a Kelsey Grammer starring political drama Boss. Indeed with a strong starry cast, Yudh did grab some attention in the initial days of its telecast, but, wasn’t able to sustain decent TRPs as it was too intense and didn’t strike a connect with the audience.

Laut Aao Trisha Touted as the smallscreen comeback vehicle of yesteryear Bollywood one-hit wonder Bhagyashree, Laut Aao Trisha is a gripping mystery which has a nice following. It is loosely based on a 10 episode series Missing (a mystery drama of 2012 which starred Ashley Judd and Cliff Curtis). The makers have tried to justify the Indian drama with a crisp story telling and an interesting cast.

Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi A complex love story that revolves around a rich and beautiful girl Ishani (Radhika Madaan) and her poor admirer, the son of the domestic help Ranveer (Shakti Arora) has an uncanny resemblance to Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights. This classic novel got adapted thrice into movies and now it finds an Indian soapy version. The current love-hate drama and complications — which is Ekta Kapoor’s forte is gaining a lot of interest via TRPs.
