I will not play a makkhi’s boyfriend in a serial: Nakuul Mehta

Actor Nakuul Mehta, who was recently in Lucknow, seemed quite happy playing a ‘human being’ in his next serial Ishqbaaaz. “I am quite happy to play a human being in Ishqbaaz, while a lot of actors today are busy playing makkhi machhar, naagins and what not,” laughs Nakuul, adding, “Frankly speaking, even today it is hard to find work on TV which is fulfilling for a male protagonist. All the shows with supernatural themes on TV actually have the actresses playing those characters. I will not play a makkhi’s boyfriend in a serial. Make me a makkhi and I will play one, but with some awesome special effects.”

Nakuul, who debuted in Bollywood with

Haal-e-Dil

, says he is now content doing work on the small screen. “To be honest, I never thought that I will be doing serials. But I realised the importance of this medium when my film, Haal-e-Dil, which didn’t do well at the Box Office when it was released, was aired on TV for the first time. People started recognising me after that. Luckily, TV got me audience, which unfortunately, my film’s release didn’t! It was after this incident that I finally made up my mind to do TV and signed my first serial

,” says Nakuul, adding, “Now since TV doesn’t leave me with much time, I am not looking at films. But yes, I recently produced my own web series, I don’t Watch TV. Plus, I am also doing a serious play in Mumbai which is about two men in a relationship. So, I am happy doing good work on different mediums.”

, but was replaced midway with actor Siddharth Shukla, says, “I didn’t give any clarification about my sudden exit from IGT at that time because I had signed an exclusivity contract with a channel on which my serial, Ishqbaaaz, will now be aired. I had my commitments and therefore had to quit IGT mid-way. It wasn’t like that because I wasn’t good at hosting so the channel replaced me.”
