I was jobless and in debts: Rinku Dhawan, who recently entered Anupamaa
Despite a successful career spanning more than 20 years on Indian television, Rinku Dhawan admits OTT platforms still hesitate to offer roles to TV actors. She has auditioned extensively and even reached out to casting teams herself, but the efforts haven’t translated into roles yet. “If OTT has built these walls saying they don’t want television actors, what can one do?” she asks.
Her frustration is understandable, especially considering what she has weathered. Between 2017 and 2021, Rinku went through a very difficult phase. She lost her father, went through a divorce, and struggled both emotionally and financially. “I was jobless and in debts. It was a tough period, but I never gave up. I’m glad I managed to bounce back,” she shares.
The turnaround began with Chhoti Sarrdaarni. “The show brought my first significant paycheck in three-and-a-half years. Then came Bigg Boss, followed by Udaariyaan and Megha Barsenge, which finally brought stability back into my life,” says Rinku, who is currently seen in Anupamaa. She added, "I have a layered role in Anupamaa and it is not really in the negative space."
Life’s challenges have only made her stronger, and today she is grateful for everything she has. “Life has not been easy, but Mahadev has always been there. I’m in a calm space now and not seeking anything. I enjoy what I do and I prefer to live in the moment,” she signs off.
The actress also enjoyed her stint in Bigg Boss. She said, "I think Bigg Boss helped me get back on my feet. Also, I was not expecting to go on for very long but people liked me in the house."
