I am just about done with reading the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. It’s a series of three best-selling novels — The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. The trilogy is based on the lives on two characters Lisbeth and Mikael.
As I started to go page-by-page, I related very well with Lisbeth, who is an intelligent yet eccentric woman in her twenties and has a photographic memory too.
Mikael is an investigative journalist and a celebrity in his own right. What drew me to this title was that I could instantly connect with the narrative, their journey, dilemmas and enigma. The sheer genius with which the mystery was built around the various events and situations makes the book a delightful read.
The strong characterisation and plot points do not allow even a moment of boredom and had me guessing till the very end. The trilogy has innumerable characters but the detailing of each individual person is so intricate that you can relate to every character even if they link back much later. One tragedy is that the author died even before the first book could be put out on the stands and all the three books went on to be made into feature films. Well, that’s the irony of life!
