Ishita Ganguly was born and raised in Kolkata but she always dreamt of coming to Mumbai and making a career in showbiz. She recounts, “I used to dream since childhood that I will one day live in Mumbai. I was always fascinated by the city. It wasn’t easy, but my mother supported me throughout."
Being a Bengali, she wasn't fluent in Hindi and had to work on it.
“Initially my spoken Hindi was bad. The way a few letters are pronounced in Hindi is different from how I used to speak them. When I was working in the show Shastri Sisters in 2014, I took a month-long diction course which my producer made arrangements for. I used to shoot for the entire day and then take diction classes in the night,” she says adding, "After doing back-to-back mythological shows, my Hindi improved a lot."
Ishita started her television career in 2011 with a Bengali daily soap Mrs Sinha Roy and then gradually shifted to Hindi television. Talking about her journey so far, she says, “My journey has been interesting there have been lots of good memories and ups and downs. Even before Mrs Sinha Roy happened, I did a small role in another Bengali daily soap and that is how things started for me. I used to perform in front of the mirror and my family members would call me a drama queen. So I knew deep down that I would get into acting someday."
While acting has been her first love, she also wanted to make sure that she completes her studies. "I made sure to complete my graduation. I graduated in English honours while doing Shastri Sisters,” says the Ghar Ek Mandir - Kripa Agrasen Maharaj Ki actress.
