'Humility can often lead to humiliation'

...says Babul Supriyo, who’s caught in the crossfire between two music reality shows
'Humility can often lead to humiliation'
doweshowbellyad=0;
Babul Supriyo. (TOI Photo)Singer Babul Supriyo’s been in the news past few weeks since the time he signed up for two music reality shows. He’s anchoring K for Kishore along with Rajeshwari Sachdev on one channel and will appear as a contestant on another in the upcoming show Dhoom Macha De.
But life’s not been easy for Babul what with him being dragged to court by NDTV Imagine for signing up with K for Kishore.
The singer did try to settle things amicably, but there’s another round of trouble for him. Babul’s now pulled up again for singing on K for Kishore. BT spoke to the man himself...
Do you regret signing up for two music reality shows at the same time?
No, I don’t regret anything. In life conflicts do happen, but what matters is if the conflict is intentional or whether it has risen because of some confusion. Right now I can not talk on this matter as it is subjudice.
There are reports that you sang on K For Kishore and so are being dragged to court by the makers of Dhoom Mache De...
Life is funny. I never knew a singer could face contempt of court for singing. It’s like a cricketer is signed up for a 20-20 match and then stopped from playing cricket! Again, I can not talk on this. Let the courts decide.
Why is there confusion considering you are an anchor in one show and a contestant in Dhoom Macha De?

I am a contestant in Dhoom Macha De and an anchor on K for Kishore. And all I do is sing for a living.
You came to Mumbai 13 years ago to pursue your singing dream. Any lessons you’ve learnt?
I have realised that humility can often lead to humiliation. Mumbai has definitely helped me grow as a person. But I can’t say it’s made me a better person.
There are rumours of tension between Rajeshwari Sachdev, who also anchors K For Kishore, and you?
That’s because I’m new to this job.
But there’s a feeling that she dominates the show more...
To men, all women are dominating! (laughs) She is a great co-host and is actually helping me learn the job very fast. Trust
me in two months, I’ll be a great host.
So we’ll see you a lot on TV next few months...
My television life for the next few months revolves around K-for Kishore and Dhoom Macha De. I want to excel and make myself extremely happy with my performances in both the shows.
What’s on the personal front? Your wife Ria and you have separated...
Yes, we have separated, but she is a great friend of mine and helps me in every direction in my everyday life. I don’t wish to make a concrete statement here, but all I can say is that we — both of us and our daughter are extremely happy with the way we are handling things.
