Have evolved as an actor with Punyashlok Ahilyabai: Krish Chauhan on his third stint

Krish has bagged the role of Male Rao Holkar in the show
Krish Chauhan, who impressed viewers as the young Khanderao Holkar in Punyashlok Ahilyabai, is back on the show in a new role. With the show taking a leap, Krish has bagged the role of Male Rao Holkar and he is super excited. The Vadodara boy, who has done TV shows like Mere Sai, Swaraj, Karamphaldata Shani, Mahakali-Anth Hi Aarambh Hai, Ram Siya Ke Luv Kush, Balika Vadhu 2, and played the lead role in the Gujarati film Backbencher, tells us, “It’s the third time I am back on this show and it has played a huge role in my career. In between, I had taken a short break as I had my exams (final year of engineering). In the last couple of months, there were incorrect reports about me signing up for a couple of shows. I can never say no to the team of this show and I am glad to be back on TV. In fact, when reports started doing the rounds that I was all set to be roped in to play Male Rao Holkar, I did not believe it. Apart from fame and money, this show has given me a lot of love from the audience and helped me to evolve as an actor. Also, at a time when many TV shows are wrapping up in just three or four months, I am proud that this show has been running successfully for more than two years.” Excerpts from a chat:

‘Doing social dramas can be monotonous after a point’

I am glad that my character sports a moustache in my current show because it has given me a unique look as compared to my previous roles. I prefer doing historical and mythological TV shows over social dramas. Doing social dramas on TV can become monotonous after a point. There is a lot of repetition in terms of content and I don’t enjoy that. Also, historical and mythological shows present some unique challenges and I love preparing extensively for my roles. I also get to learn a lot about our glorious past from these shows. Having played the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Swaraj, which was a childhood dream, my next dream role is to play his son Sambhaji.

‘I have lost 11 kilos in the last two months’

During the break in my hometown, I worked hard on my body and thanks to the intense workouts, I have managed to lose 11 kilos in the last two months. This industry is very unpredictable and as actors, we constantly need to work on our look, body, and skills.

‘I get a lot of offers to do Gujarati films’

I keep getting a lot of offers to do Gujarati films, but my current look has become an obstacle as makers eventually feel that I don’t look mature enough to carry off a lead role. I am also eager to take up a good OTT project. Having my elder sister (actress Sneha Chauhan) with me in Mumbai is of great help. However, since both of us are busy with our respective shows currently, we hardly get to spend any time together. While didi always says that I help her a lot with her projects, she has also done a lot for me. Had it not been for her passion for dance, none of us would have explored opportunities in Mumbai. I am grateful to her and my parents for always supporting my dreams.
