While most actors want to play lead roles, why is Gaurav doing only character acts? "I prefer playing ‘characters’ because they enable me to play roles which are very unlike me," he says.
On television, he’s often known as funny face. Is comedy his forte? "I prefer playing lighter roles. I have not done out-and-out comedy shows, but ones that are real. I don’t believe in slapstick comedy. I opt for serious roles once in a while, but I am a happy person," chips Gaurav. The actor also claims that he is not game for typical saas-bahu soaps. "I like people who are doing it but, I wonder whether I will be able to put in that kind of hard work." Along with the television dailies, the actor has also hosted a music-based-reality show, Bathroom Singer. Talking about his experience, Gaurav says,
"Playing a host is different from portraying a character as one has to be really bright. Hosting is definitely a learning experience." Does that inspire the actor to be part of a reality show as a participant? "I can’t lip-sync," comes the prompt reply. "But yes, I am a good cook. I would like to be part of a cookery show," laughs Gaurav. Having been noticed for his cameos in Neal-N-Niki, Kyun Ho Gaya Na and Mera Pehla Pehla Pyar, is the actor planning a move to the big screen? "I am shooting for a multi-starrer comedy being directed by Tharun Kumar," informs the actor. With his platter full of exciting work, seems like Gaurav’s on a roll.
