From reducing screen time to skipping Insulin doses: Saas Bina Sasural fame Aishwarya Sakhuja shares dos and don’ts as a Type 1 diabetes patient

Ever since Aishwarya Sakhuja got detected with Type 1 diabetes, she has been using social media as a platform to make others aware of the same. From dietary habits to healthy habits that should be followed, Aishwarya has been sharing her personal experiences with the caution that these are the tips that worked for her. Here take a look at the dos and don’ts for Type 1 diabetic patient:

A healthy drink for an empty stomach

To clean toxins from body, Aishwarya shared what she drinks on empty stomach. “Soak 1 tablespoon of Methi seeds in one glass of water overnight. Have it on an empty stomach. Do not boil the water...in plain water let the seeds soak through the night. N if you are mighty courageous try n chew the seeds while consuming the water. I find them too bitter so I just have the water.”

Four good foods for diabetic patients

Green leafy vegetables, whole grains, berries and beans are the four foods that are good for people with Type 1 diabetes. She shared in details, how these super food will help a diabetic patient.

Having early dinner

Eating early before retiring to bed is a good option as it gives you a chance to have some movement in and around the house and as you do that you don’t even realise that your body is already working on breaking down your food. By the time you sleep you wouls have digested your food hence no surprise spikes there.

Having a low-carb diet

I personally keep my dinner low in carbohydrates and rich in protein as a Proper protein consumption can help a person with diabetes by improving blood sugar levels, helping promote satiety and preserving lean body mass. The appropriate amount of protein a person needs can vary based on a few factors, including body weight, the presence of kidney disease and the individual's age.

Healthy habits

Aishwarya swears by walking after every meal. She wrote, “Movement is a must must must. As soon as you fix your circadian rhythm your body performs better overall, hence better absorption of carbohydrates and other nutrients. Take your wake up and sleeping timings very seriously.”

Goodbye to caffeine intake

If you want your body to truly rest you have got to say goodbye to your coffee and screen before you sleep. Getting poor sleep or less restorative slow-wave sleep has been linked to high blood sugar levels in people with diabetes and pre-diabetes.

Mistakes she made while trying to deal with diabetes

It can all be very daunting when you are newly diagnosed with diabetes. I remember being a headless chicken and running from one doctor to the other hoping someone will tell me that either I don't have type 1 diabetes or it can be reversed but unfortunately I didn't find anyone who could tell me that. Management of the disorder is the best I could get from each one of them. I thought insulin will make me put on weight on my tummy (which it did) and how it is WRONG to rely on insulin injections. It took me a year to figure it all out. You will too take your time to understand what has just hit you but if you are a type 1 don’t make the mistakes I made.
