From meeting for the first time on New Year’s Eve to a grand proposal in Dubai; Karishma Tanna recalls her love story with husband Varun Bangera

From a New Year’s Eve meeting to a surprise proposal in Dubai, Karishma Tanna opens up about her enchanting love story with husband Varun Bangera on Farah Khan’s cooking vlog. “We met on 31st night at a common friend’s place. I noticed him as a tall guy and he noticed me as a tall girl,” Karishma recalls. Their first meeting was brief and without conversation, but fate stepped in quickly. “It’s so difficult to find a tall guy or a tall girl!”

Their story began over a witty text. “He had messaged me, ‘They say coffee is good for health’,” she laughs. Just a day after their brief encounter, they reconnected thanks to a mutual friend, and that quirky message sparked the start of something unexpectedly beautiful.

“The best thing about him was that he didn’t know who I was,” Karishma says with a smile. Varun, untouched by the entertainment world, brought refreshing authenticity. “He was like, ‘Sorry, what do you do?’ when people would click pictures of me. I was like, ‘You are my man’,” she shares, cherishing his genuine nature.

“He told me we’re going to chill,” she recalls of their Dubai trip. “I had no clue. He is also an actor. He was subtle, poker face and he told me that we are going to do sky diving. The suddenly I see, Varun is not coming with me and I am the only one jumping off the plane. It was my first time!” Karishma’s first skydiving experience turned out to be the setup for a moment she’d never forget.

Coming down from the sky, she saw him below. “Varun was on his knees and a big banner read, ‘Will you marry me?’” With a solitaire in hand and her emotions running high, Karishma realized the surprise had been planned all along. “I was irritated first—but then I saw everything!”

“Varun shops more than me!” Karishma laughs. “He even shops for me.” The couple has separate closets because he needs “a lot of space.” Their shared love for fashion—and each other—is clear, proving that even everyday quirks become part of a beautiful love story.

Karishma Tanna married Mumbai-based businessman Varun Bangera on February 5, 2022, in an intimate beachside ceremony in Mumbai. The couple first met at a mutual friend's party on New Year's Eve and got engaged in November 2021. Their wedding combined Gujarati and South Indian traditions.
