Exclusive: Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’s Abhishek Malik on his surprise roka ceremony with Suhani Chaudhary; ‘I picked up the ring at the airport’

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein fame Abhishek Malik and fashion stylist Suhani Chaudhary recently made their relationship official. The couple had their roka ceremony in Delhi on January 26. Abhishek is back in Mumbai and resumed shoot for his show Pinjara – Khoobsurti Ka. In an exclusive chat with ETimes TV, Abhishek spoke about his grand roka ceremony, buying a ring for his fiancé at the airport and more:

I met Suhani through a friend and we would talk to each other. I have known her for a long time but due to us being in Delhi and Mumbai, we wouldn’t meet that much. During lockdown, I went home and we met a few times. We vibed well. In December, we spent good times and celebrated New Year together. Then Pinjara happened to me. Suhani forced me that I should do the show. We had just started dating and if I come to Mumbai, there will be a gap. She told me, ‘I will be there, you go and give your 100 per cent.’

I personally feel she is my lucky charm. I would say earlier that my mother and sister are my lucky charms and now Suhani is also there. The moment she came in my life, things started to take shape. I am happy on that note. I started shooting for this show.

My mother insisted on meeting their family and even they wanted to meet my family. My mother and sister went to meet them and they had a good laugh. Suhani’s family wanted to meet me and said, ‘You have an off on 26th, come to Delhi for a day.’ And I was ok. I had met their family only once and it was just an exchange of greetings. Once I came, it was all planned. Such grand welcome I got. You got to see them in pictures. It feels wonderful. It came as a surprise to me. For a second I thought, ke shaadi toh nhi ho rahi hai. Was elated to see such grand arrangements for roka ceremony. You know how grand Punjabi weddings in Delhi get.

There was no formal proposal. My family did some shopping. I picked up a ring for her at the airport. It was a special day for her and I thought of making her feel special with this gesture. My friends captured the moment when I put the ring on her finger and that’s how we got a proposal video. On the day of roka, I went up to uncle (Suhani’s father) and introduced myself, ‘I am Abhishek, jiske sath apki beti ka roka ho raha hai’ and everyone started laughing.

Suhani is a stylist and she has her own boutique. Everybody is happy. Suhani ki vibes bahut achhi hai. She is fashionable and is grounded at the same time. She is a very family-oriented girl.

The best part about their family is they love my family and they were of the opinion that ‘value wala ladka hai’ and they had already done proper background research about me. They told me, ‘We got a very homely vibe from you.’ For them, money, house and nothing matters. They wanted the girl should be in good hands. Same for my family too. Suhani’s parents are Praveen and Anjana Choudhary and they are wonderful. My mother Bhavana Malik and my sister Anjali have been my support throughout.

Her brother, Mayank is to die for. I have to mention his name. He took the entire responsibility and took the ceremony to the next level. The hospitality and their family, everything was at par. There were no second thoughts about it.

They were suggesting that in my next off we should get married. So may be in the winters we will plan for the wedding. In roka, we didn’t get much time. I want to do a nicely planned wedding. I think they will do a destination wedding.
