Exclusive: Tenali Rama’s Pankaj Berry on maintaining his popularity over the years; says ‘Sometimes it’s been difficult but I will keep doing good work’
The beloved show Tenali Rama has returned with a fresh and exciting storyline, much to the delight of fans. Alongside this revival comes the return of the clever and witty Raj Guru Tathacharya, played by the seasoned actor Pankaj Berry. Known for his shrewd and cunning ways, Tathacharya’s iconic battles of wit with Tenali Rama (played by Krishna Bharadwaj) have long been a highlight of the series.
In an exclusive conversation with Times of India TV, Pankaj Berry expressed his joy at reprising the role. “I played Tathacharya for three and a half years earlier, and now I’m returning to it. It’s a wonderful character—interesting, lovable, and full of life. I was always confident that the show would return, and now that it’s back with even more entertainment, I’m thrilled. I know the audience will be as happy as I am,” he shared enthusiastically.
Reflecting on his enduring career and popularity, Berry acknowledged the challenges he has faced. “Sometimes it’s been difficult, but I approach every day as if it’s my first. When I leave the house in the morning, I remind myself to do my best work. As long as I keep delivering, the audience will keep watching and showering their love. Life will continue to move forward, bringing more opportunities my way,” he said with optimism.
The actor also praised the show’s ability to blend humour with valuable lessons. “The beauty of Tenali Rama lies in its unique combination of entertainment and meaningful messages. Parents don’t have to tell their kids to stop watching TV and study. Instead, they ask them to sit, watch, and learn. That’s the true purpose of television—entertainment with a purpose,” Berry explained.
With such passion and dedication, it’s no surprise that Pankaj Berry remains a beloved figure in the industry, continuously winning hearts with his craft.
