Maati Se Bandhi Dor actress Shiwani Chakraborty already has four tattoos on her and plans to get a fifth one soon. Talking about it, she said, “I was not a tattoo person at all, but one day I discovered that tattoos are an ancient tradition and a remarkable form of self-expression that stays with you until you die.”
“While doing the show Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai, I was searching for a new show, and that time wasn't great for me. I wanted to do something interesting. Whenever I feel low, I like to pamper myself, like getting a haircut or doing something else, and at that time, I decided to get a tattoo,” she added.
She is a devotee of Shiva, and she wanted something to reflect that. “When I went for the tattoo, I spoke to the artist, who asked me why I wanted a damroo and a trishul. He then created a unique and artistic design for me. My first tattoo is a peacock feather and a flute, symbolizing Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. For my second tattoo, I went back during Durga Puja. In our tradition, we worship goddess Lakshmi with 108 lotuses, an important ritual. The lotus is a holy flower, so I decided to get a lotus on the index finger of my right hand, as my astrologer advised,” she said. “Since I am very spiritual, I consulted my astrologer for my third tattoo as well. My astrologer, Janvi Neema Soni, from Indore, is a renowned numerologist and astrologer. According to my planets, she advised me to get a star because I am a moon child and love gazing at the moon. She said I have the characteristics of the moon—calm and cool—so I got three stars on the right side of my collarbone in Goa, which is lucky for me. For my fourth tattoo, I decided on flying birds. So, on my ankle, I have three flying birds, which I got the same day I got the three stars. Each tattoo has spiritual significance and aligns with the planetary positions of the grahas,” she added.
Shiwani also pointed out that getting tattoos can be painful, in fact, she got a fever after her first tattoo. But she says it’s painful but worth it. “You should make sure to have a good tattoo artist and follow the necessary precautions. There are some things on your bucket list and on your mind, so if you think about a tattoo, when I inked myself with all those thoughts, I felt good as I gave an image to my thoughts. Ancient people were also inked,” she said.
“As an actor, there are issues sometimes; you have to make sure to hide tattoos with makeup. Sometimes, at the last moment before starting a shot, you realize you forgot to hide it, so you have to quickly cover it. Still, I want to get one more tattoo in Bengali font. I want to write 'Baba' because I have a special connection with my father. Though he is no longer with me, I have his blessings always,” she added.
