Exclusive - Rohit Choudhary on being part of Dalchini: I love to carry this character home
Actor Rohit Choudhary, who is part of the show Dalchini, says that he always tries to make sure he doesn’t carry his character back home with him. However, he says that playing the role of Tej in the show, is something he loves to be at home as well.
“I used to bring my work home earlier, but also I have always tried to leave all my negative characters on the set to avoid bringing negativity home. Working on a daily soap is challenging, but I love it. I enjoy working in daily soaps, and the current character I'm playing is really nice. Bringing the character of Tej home is a positive experience for me. So yes, this character comes home with me. Certain nuances and thoughts about them linger because you spend the whole day immersed in their world. But right now, I am genuinely happy to carry Tej with me because he's a really nice and good-hearted character,”
Ask him what has changed in the industry over the years, and he says, “One change is the need for patience, particularly due to platforms like Reels and the prevalence of short and quick content on phones. In the age of fast-paced information and short attention spans, people have become less patient. For content to capture and retain their audience, scenes need to be exceptionally good. The current pace of life is very fast, and people want everything quickly. This is evident in the popularity of Instagram reels, where creators have a limited time (60 or 90 seconds) to showcase everything. The most prominent shift seems to be in the audience's patience level, as they are increasingly seeking quick and engaging content.”
Talking about performing well, he says, “The key to a good performance, in my view, lies in dedication. It involves constantly thinking about the character, exploring what more you can bring to it, and approaching it with sincerity. A truly good performance comes when you perform with a high level of sincerity, paying attention to every small detail and working on finding new nuances for your character.”
