Exclusive - Laalo fame Shruhad Goswami on working with Smriti Irani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2; says 'Despite being such a powerful and respected personality, she never makes anyone feel small'
Acclaimed Gujarati actor Shruhad Goswami, best known for playing Krishna in the hit Gujarati film Laalo, recently joined the cast of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 for special episodes. In an exclusive interview with Times of India TV, the actor opened up about making his Hindi television debut, being part of the iconic show, and his experience of working with Smriti Irani.
When asked about how the opportunity to be a part of Kyunki 2 arrived, Shruhad said, "It was because of Laalo that I got this opportunity. The film performed exceptionally well and did business of around Rs 100 crore, the makers noticed the film's success and approached me for a role. I received a call from Balaji Telefilms informing me about a special appearance for one or two episodes as Lord Krishna. They asked if I would like to do it, and when I found out it was for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, a show we had all grown up watching—it felt like a huge opportunity. Getting an offer directly from Balaji for such a popular serial meant a lot to me, so I immediately said yes. The dates were soon finalised, and we went ahead with the shoot."
Speaking about his debut on Hindi television, Shruhad said, "Hindi television was completely new for me, and in fact, television itself was a first. I had never worked on a serial before, so everything felt fresh and unfamiliar. Initially, I was quite nervous, but with time, those nerves faded and I began to enjoy the process. The shoot was fun and engaging, and I learned a great deal from Smriti ma’am and the director. Working in Hindi television felt special and different. For the first few hours, it felt almost unreal, like I was dreaming. All of this was something I had only watched on TV before, and suddenly, I was a part of it. It took a while to sink in that it was actually happening. I feel truly grateful for the entire experience."
Further in the interview, Shruhad expressed his happiness on being a part of iconic TV show Kyunki and his mom's reaction, "I had grown up watching this show. That title song, my mother watching it regularly, and the entire family sitting together to follow the episodes are all childhood memories for me. When I shared the news at home, my mother was extremely happy, especially since she still watches these serials even today. Seeing her so proud and happy was my biggest joy—that I was now a part of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi," he said.
Shruhad also shared his experience of working closely with Smriti Irani, who essays the role of Tulsi. He says, "It was a special appearance, and working with Smriti ma’am was truly enjoyable. She is incredibly warm, grounded, and supportive. Despite being such a powerful and respected personality, she never makes anyone feel small. She is very approachable, easy to talk to, and you can learn so much just by observing her. Working with her felt special, and for me, the entire experience still felt like a dream—like I was living something I had only imagined before."
