Exclusive - Harleen Kaur Rekhi: My height has helped me land characters who needed to stand tall both physically and in spirit
Shrimad Narayan actor Harleen Kaur Rekhi is standing tall at 5’7”, literally and figuratively. In fact, she shared that, contrary to the perception, her height has actually helped her bag roles.
She said, “Honestly, my height has always been an advantage, both on screen and on stage. It’s never felt like a challenge to me. I think the perception has changed over time. People are now more open-minded, and that shift has definitely helped my career. Today’s directors and DOPs are incredibly smart and tech-savvy. They know how to work around these things. They make it look seamless on screen.”
“The roles I’ve done required a certain physique and presence. And touch wood, I’ve been able to fit into them well. My height has actually turned out to be a plus point—it has helped me land characters who needed to stand tall both physically and in spirit,” she added.
However, she agrees that screen dynamics matter, and there have been some occasional adjustments done. She said, “Things like body language, camera angles, or even footwear can make a difference on screen. But I don’t consider it a big issue. It’s just part of adapting to the scene and making sure everything looks good on camera.”
Harleen is all praise for the team behind the cameras and said, “They’re brilliant at handling it. Whether it’s a romantic scene or a long shot, they know how to make things work visually. It could be angles, posture, or set positioning. They’re creative and collaborative, so I’ve never felt restricted because of my height.”
Word of advice to other tall women dreaming of a career in showbiz? ”I’d tell them to just go for it. If you believe you can do it, then you absolutely should. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back. Confidence and belief in yourself matter more than anything. Build that confidence, work on your craft, and show up as your most authentic self. The industry is evolving, and there’s space for everyone who brings something real to the table,” Harleen ended.
