Delnaaz: 'I hate when people say yeh toh sirf comedy karti hai'

says she is tired of doing only comedy roles and now wants to experiment with other genres. The actress, who has done several shows like Yes Boss and Comedy Circus, is now doing theatre. Delnaaz says, “It seems that I’ve been doing comedy for ages. I am an underrated actor as far as films and television is concerned. Theatre is the only place that has given me the opportunity to showcase my talent. I am thankful to theatre which has given me the opportunity to prove my mettle as an actor."

The actress believes that film and TV show makers do not want see her doing anything beyond comedy. “I feel bad when people say, ‘Yeh toh sirf comedy hi karti hai’. I know that my audience has accepted me in that role. But as an actor, I don’t feel satisfied with what I am doing. And that’s when I decided to move towards theatre because my hunger is fulfilled on stage. Here, I have the liberty to explore and push myself. My director has the confidence that I can take the play forward,” she says.

On an actor’s shelf life, Delnaaz adds, “Actors don’t come with an expiry date. But yes, as they age, they need to experiment with the kind of roles they do. Now I feel I can do mature roles. I would love to play a young mom in a Bollywood film. I would love to be the onscreen mom of Alia Bhatt or may be Tiger Shroff. I am sure I will make for a cute mom to the young lot of actors. Obviously, I can’t be a heroine’s friend at this age, so why not a mom?”
