Actor Kailash Topnani, who is currently seen in Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul, has changed his name to
Harjot Singh. He shares, “My parents had shortlisted two names – Kailash and Harjot – and they eventually decided to name me Kailash. However, I always felt a strong connection with Harjot and so, around 15 days ago, I decided to change my name. I took my parents’ permission for the same.
I have been busy informing my friends and casting directors in the industry. I know initially, it will be confusing but I am sure that everyone will grow accustomed to the new name.”
What also prompted Kailash to change his name is his newfound love for turban. During his growing-up years, struggle period, and his initial shows -- Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat (2016) and Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanumaan (2017) – Harjot didn’t wear a turban. It was only during his stint on Choti Sardaarni that he fell in love with his turban and hasn’t removed it since. He shares, “My mother always wanted me to follow my religion and wear a turban. However, I was of the notion that there are not enough opportunities for sardaars, so I wasn’t too sure about wearing a turban. I thought of it as a limitation for me as an actor in terms,
kyunki ek hi look
rehta. It was during Choti Sarrdaarni that I realised that people do write good characters for sardaars. No sardaar is offered a riff-raff role but only positive characters. So, I stand corrected today.”
