Prenatal yoga as a trend is fast catching up, from celebrity moms-to-be to housewives. Mental peace and calm apart, “Prenatal yoga helps pregnant women adapt to the constant change their bodies are undergoing from first to third trimester. Every trimester has a different set of yoga asanas, but it is important for pregnant women to practise yoga strictly under guidance,” says Ishita Uppal, yoga expert.

Prenatal yoga helped me realise my strengths: Debina Bonnerjee

I always practised yoga and I continued it through both my pregnancies with help from my husband Gurmeet (Choudhary). During pregnancy, I did prenatal yoga and stopped the tough types and did yoga according to my body’s capacity. Yoga makes you aware of your capacity, limits and during the delicate time of pregnancy, only a woman can understand her physical strengths and needs.

Asanas for Debina
  • Vinyasa flow
  • Cat-cow stretch (Chakravakrasana)
  • Surya namaskar
  • Warrior pose (Veerbhadrasana)

Prenatal yoga came easy to me as I have been practising yoga for many years. In fact, it came as a natural choice during my second pregnancy as there was a lockdown due to COVID so I could not go to gym or do anything else. I started practising from the first trimester. Various pranayama helped a lot. All the pranayama and asanas I did I had showcased on my videos which I put on my social media to help all pregnant women. I thoroughly recommend it. But it must be performed with permission from their doctors and to be practised under guidance of a professional.

Asanas for Geeta

  • Cow face pose
  • Nadi shodhana asana in pranayama
  • Chanting practices
  • Breath mudra

Prenatal yoga kept me fit: Neha Marda

Prenatal yoga came easily to me and was a natural choice for me. I started yoga in the second trimester, but I couldn’t continue till the third trimester, because I had a tough pregnancy and by the third trimester I had some health complications. I would recommend yoga even before women get pregnant and post pregnancy to get back the body’s strength and shape.

Asanas for Neha
  • Anulom vilom forgood oxygen supply
  • Brahmani Yoga
  • Stretching like butterfly pose
