Bigg Boss 19: Amaal Mallik opens up about his family’s financial struggles: “We had Rs 3.5–4 crore loan, were at a verge to sell our house and car”
The latest Weekend Ka Vaar of Bigg Boss 19 saw a shocking moment when Pranit More had to leave the show over health concerns. Another moment from the reality show that grabbed many eyeballs was when Amaal Mallik opened up about his struggling days, financial issues, and much more. He expressed that he didn’t want to use his dad’s name to be successful and has had many ups and downs in his career.
Amaal shared, “I remember the time when I managed to enter Ekta Kapoor’s party. It’s not that easy to make contacts in the industry, regardless of who you are, so I requested my friend, who’s an assistant director, to help me get into the party. When I entered, everyone was in their own zone, and one of the senior writers held my shirt and asked me why I was at the party. I told him that I’d come through a friend. He pulled me and told me that after one year, I would be doing the biggest song of my life and that he’d meet me then. I still remember that push because I fell in slow motion.”
Talking about his struggling days as a musician, he said, “I’ve never used my father’s name to get anywhere. I used to roam around with a keyboard and try to get work. One day, I met someone and sang four of my songs in the lift, and they asked me for my introduction. I told them how I’m a musician and want to make songs. He told me that he didn’t want romantic songs at the moment. Later, I remembered the melody of Sooraj Dooba Hai and sang that song. I also met the same writer from that party, who wrote it for me. I told my dad that I finally got a song in Ranbir Kapoor’s movie, and he was happy.”
He later shared, “During that time, we had a loan of Rs 3.5–4 crore because of some reasons, and neither my uncle nor anyone else helped us. My grandfather was very serious and was admitted to the hospital, and because of that, we took loans. Armaan used to do voice-overs and earn Rs 15,000–20,000. It was a tough time because we were on the verge of selling our house and car.”
